- 1 mark off out of 40 for every mistake: spelling mistake, word left out, word not in the passage, and every word not typed.
- 16 marks (40%) pass. Speed and accuracy are not shown while you type; the result appears at the end.
- Marathi and Hindi use the Remington layout (ISM, Unicode Mangal) in the exam. Here you type the same keys without any software.

Start test Speed passage rules (from the MSCE guidelines)
- 1. The speed passage carries 40 marks and lasts 7 minutes. Before it, a 3-minute trial passage is given for keyboard practice; it is not marked.
- 2. After the trial, a 30-second countdown is shown. Typing is not possible during it; then the 7-minute timer starts.
- 3. One mark is deducted for each mistake: spelling mistakes, words left out, words typed that are not in the passage, and incomplete typing.
- 4. A candidate who finishes before the time is up may read the passage again and correct mistakes.
- 5. Press Tab once at the start of each paragraph, and press Enter only at the end of a paragraph (after the full stop, without a space). Do not press Enter at the end of each line.
- 6. One extra space or one extra Enter is accepted; more are counted as mistakes.
- 7. In Hindi, the danda (।) is typed right after the last word of the sentence, with no space before it.
- 8. Blind candidates, and candidates with an eligible disability of the hands or fingers, get 10 minutes instead of 7 for the speed passage. You can choose this extra time before starting a mock test.
